      Job Cost Accountant

      Key Responsibilities

      • WIP Schedule Maintenance: Prepare and analyze monthly WIP reports to track project costs, revenue recognized, and over/under-billings.
      • Job Costing & Analysis: Code, review, and analyze project expenses, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs, to monitor budget variances.
      • Percentage of Completion: Calculate revenue recognition based on the percentage of completion method.
      • Invoicing & Billings: Prepare monthly client progress billings (pay apps) and review subcontractor invoices for accuracy.
      • Project Controls: Monitor project budgets to prevent overruns and identify potential financial risks early.
      • Financial Reporting: Assist with month-end closing, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.


      Qualifications

      • Experience: 2-5+ years in construction accounting, specifically with WIP, job costing, and AIA billing.
      • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent years of experience
      • Software Skills: Proficiency in construction-specific software, Microsoft applications - specifically Excel and Adobe
      • Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, lien waivers, and retention.


      Core Competencies

      • Detail-Oriented: Highly accurate in data entry and analysis.
      • Communication: Ability to collaborate with project managers, vendors, and senior leadership.
      • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to resolve discrepancies.
      • Lien Documentation: Prepare, file, record, and release mechanic’s liens, preliminary notices, and notice of intent documents.
      • Compliance Tracking: Monitor state-specific deadlines for filing and, if necessary, initiating foreclosure proceedings.
      • Lien Waiver Management: Collect and process conditional and unconditional lien waivers from subcontractors and suppliers with each progress payment.
      • Project Documentation: Review contracts, maintain detailed payment records, and verify property legal descriptions.
      • Communication: Interface with project managers, clients, legal counsel, and government agencies to resolve payment disputes.
